Stay tuned because you’re going to start seeing more headlines like that one.  The headline of this post was created in jest but believe me there is truth in this joke.

As content marketing becomes a more and more prevalent tactic across organizations, the amount of content being created and distributed will increase, as will the noise, as will the mimicry and me-too-isms that have wrecked Social Media.

You may have heard that content marketing is the next big thing…it’s not.  It’s something that we’ve had for a while that is now being repackaged and resold to help those companies, that haven’t gotten on board, to open their wallets and start pumping out STUFF.  I’m all for creating content as a marketing tactic, here’s what I fear:

Company X is going to see company Y’s results of content marketing and go head first into copying the exact same tactic.  This becomes an even bigger problem once companies A-W also be copying the same tactic.  Now it’s not just the success story, but every subsequent attempt to recreate the magic.
