I want to take a moment to sincerely thank all of my readers in 2011.

You stayed connected with me as I launched a business.

You put up with my strong opinions and you joined in on the conversations I put out there.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Right now I am in the midst of some serious planning for 2012.  If most of this goes according to plan, I think 2012 is going to be the best year yet for Social Media Philanthropy.

2012: What’s on the horizon?

Content

For starters let’s talk about content.  The content of Social Media Philanthropy took a big hit in 2011.  In 2012, I have big plans of increasing the amount of content dramatically, first by inviting a larger number of guest bloggers to share their insights about the state of the Internet.  Secondly, I am going to refine the existing content by spending some time curating the “Best of” Social Media Philanthropy.  Lastly, I’ll be adding a suggestion box where you can vote on topics you’d like to see on Social Media Philanthropy.

Design

The design of Social Media Philanthropy has gone through several revisions.  While I like the current look of Social Media Philanthropy, something isn’t quite right.  The site is loading slowly, comments are running off of the page and in general it does not carry the level of professionalism that I’m looking for.  I’m going to devote some time to optimizing the site for speed, search and content discovery.

The MOST important component

The final component to my 2012 plans for Social Media Philanthropy is the most important…you.

I want to be much more connected with you, my readers.  The bond that we form in the comments section eclipses anything that takes place on Facebook, Twitter or Google+.  I have not done a good enough job of promoting YOU, promoting YOUR content, participating in YOUR conversations…for that, I am sorry.  I have begun to make lists in Google Reader, Google+, Twitter and Facebook of those that comment on my posts, that share my posts and that generally have helped me get to where I am today.  I intend to watch YOU more closely and promote your work.

PLEASE don’t be shy; tweet me a blog post of yours, strike up a conversation with me on Twitter or IM me on GoogleTalk [email protected].

How you can help me

This blog, for the most part, is a hobby…well, a little more than a hobby.  But I don’t make money from it, I don’t hawk products or sell advertising, I just try to help people work through their social media issues.  While this is deeply connected to what I do for a living, it is difficult to keep going and prioritizing above other things if I am not seeing the results that I want.

I have no expectation that any of my readers will go above and beyond the call of duty to help me succeed, but for those of you that choose to, here is how you can help:

I am still working through the specifics but I can tell you that I want to increase traffic, comments and backlinks from highly specific anchor text such as Social Media Blog or Philadelphia Social Media Marketer or List of Social Media Resources.

See you soon

I may be MIA for the next week or two as I plan and strategize 2012 for my blog, my business…oh, and my personal life.    I’ll still be around and tweeting as always but I’ll be back as soon as I can.
