Typically we spend a lot of our time donating ideas and opinions, and that is often the definition of our “philanthropy.” But one of the other big reasons that we started this blog was to highlight, promote and amplify causes that we think are worthwhile and important.
We have worked hard to earn your attention and today, I hope you’ll indulge us and consider helping us do something meaningful with that attention.
Let’s fund research that makes spinal cord paralysis a thing of the past.
My best friend, Josh Wright, is running the NYC Marathon and raising funds for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.
I feel the need to clarify what a big deal it is that Josh has chosen to run 26.2 miles, and my hope is that you will consider donating to his fundraising campaign.
Epic Meal Time
When Josh and I get together, we exploit all of the most epic manliness we can think of and we typically do this by what we eat. It winds up looking a little like an episode of Epic Meal Time.
It would not be unheard of for us to eat a triple burger bacon grilled cheese with ghost chili hot sauce and then wash the entire thing down with 2 large bottles of Brooklyn Brewery Black Ops beer. This, of course, would be the activity that takes place before we go out for an epic BBQ meal complete with ribs, chicken, Mac -n- Cheese and cornbread.
To clarify, neither Josh nor myself are particularly overweight, in fact both of us have slimmed considerably as of late. My point is this, Josh is not the first person you think of when it comes to marathon. If I’d told Josh that I was going to be running a marathon, I get the feeling he’d tell me to eat more bacon. When Josh told me he was running a marathon, I asked if someone was going to be chasing him with a chainsaw the entire time.
Gets up early to run, no one chasing him.
Josh has started training to run an astonishing 26.2 miles through NY. He woke up to go running at 6 this morning. He is trying to reach a goal of raising $4,000 and the good news is that he’s almost halfway there. As I’m writing this post, Josh has raised $1,815. He only needs $2,185. I’m not asking you to donate $500 (though it’d be awesome if you did), I’m asking you to donate $10, $25, or $5…hell you could donate $1, but donate something. It will make you feel good, it’ll fund important research, and it’ll motivate Josh to keep getting up to train for an event that I personally may never understand.
And if you’re not sold on it yet, it’s also Josh’s birthday today. So go on, hook it up.
