When I first started using social media, I had so much to say.
I had things I wanted to share about my life.
I had topics I wanted to explore about my industry.
I had new tools and sites I wanted to play with…like a kid plays with toys.
But now, years later, exhausted by the noise and busy with running my business, I don’t share as much. I’m more discerning about the details of my life that I share. I find myself asking “why” a lot more than I used to.
“Why am I sharing this?”
“What is my intention behind sharing this?”
Am I looking for attention? Adoration? Respect? Is what I’m sharing something of value for my friends, family, or fans?
While many people are sharing more, so much more…I am sharing less. And I don’t know if it’s a function of having less to say, less time to say it, or just less good reasons to say it?
But, I really want to figure it out.
In a noisy world that’s getting noisier by the second, I want to make sure that I understand my reasons for putting content out there before I do it. And I want to find that reason before it’s too late, and I’m drowned out by the ever escalating volume of our collective voices.
