I’ve been thinking about audiences.

On Day 2, I made a video about the reasons I love my wife. Some marketers might find that strange.

Marketers are a funny bunch. Some are awesome. Some are terrible. Some can give you specifics. Others speak in generalities. Some can point to success, others talk around it.
For instance, you’ve probably heard a marketer tell you, how important it is to know your audience. It’s good advice so we should talk about it,

But let’s talk about the most common audience experience for individuals and small brands…

The tough part is doing that when you first start out. You don’t really have an audience yet. You might only have an idea of who you want to reach.
When you have a large audience, an engaged audience, or an audience that converts, the insights about that audience are more free-flowing.

However, even among the most well defined audiences, there still exist a multitude of different audiences within your audience.

My channel currently has less than 100 subscribers and within that small group, I know of 3-4 different types of people with different backgrounds and interests.
There are so many Youtube channels that I like. Many of them clearly have a well defined audience.

VSauce and Veritasium have an audience interested in the science behind natural phenomena and the mathematics of our world. But who is that audience? Are they male, are they female? Are they a particular age? What does the persona look like and did they start out with that audience or did it organically grow?

If you were to look at their bodies of work, you’d notice that no single person would likely be a fan of every single topic. The bigger picture is about the theme and style that each YouTube hits on.

So, for instance, my audience on Day 2 was for an audience of 1.
Day 3 and today, are for a different audience.
Day 79, 100, or 221 might be someone else entirely.

But throughout it, it’s going to be me and my style delivering on whatever I’m feeling.

I hope you stick around for more.
