It’s that time again. The New Year has come and gone and maybe you’ve even begun to fall back into the routine.
SNAP OUT OF IT!
It’s time to keep that feeling of new, resolved and inspired. The new year is always a great time to do some “house cleaning.” So what can you do? How about giving yourself an online audit?
Your web presence is still sooooo 2010. It’s time to take stock in what is and determine where you are going. I’m writing this to an individual but it could just as easily be applied to a company.
Do this:
Make a List
Find EVERY site that you have online. Great. Now bookmark them, preferably using something like Diigo or Delicious so that you have a scalable online repository of sites.
Ask questions
Look at the list you’ve created and look at every single site and ask:
What’s the purpose of this site?
What do I want to accomplish in (the next 3 months, 6 months, 1 year)? Is that goal measurable?
Am I paying enough attention to this site?
Would getting rid of this site help me?

Check Profile Photo/Avatar
Is your brand up to date? Do you need to update for the new year? Are your professional and personal profiles and sites appropriately distinguished by your profile photo?
Check Bio/Summary
Is it saying what you want it to say? Are you accurately saying who you are, what you’re about or what you want to accomplish? Is your bio consistent across all of your sites or are you presenting a fragmented vision of yourself?
Check Username and Password.
Are your usernames consistent across all sites? Are you easy to find? Is your password something ridiculous like “password” or “123456” because if it is maybe you should try harder. Something like IL1k3Turtle$
Check connected sites and applications.
This one is important. On both Facebook and Twitter there is a litany of security/privacy holes that can be eliminated by removing sites and applications that you are not using.

It’s time, so just get started.
There’s plenty more that you can do, but why not start there. OR you could just go ahead and hire me to do it for you. I actually do this stuff for a living. Email me.
