Do you have an unbelievable memory?  I mean like a photographic memory?

Maybe you’re like this guy…

Or this guy…

But you’re probably more like me.  When you try to remember some fleeting thought from yesterday your brain probably fails you.

So what do you do?  Well I know what I do, I use Evernote.  I’ve written a post about Evernote before from the perspective of how I use it to get things done.  This post is more about how Evernote works and why you should use it, or something like it, like Springpad.

Most people don’t have photographic memories.

I remember when I saw Good Will Hunting, I wanted to have a photographic memory so badly.  I wanted to be able to read a book in 15 minutes and be able to instantly recall what it said in paragraph 3 of page 297.  Unfortunately, that’s not the case.  But I am not alone; the majority of us don’t have the ability to recall information quickly, easily and accurately.

The tools have evolved

Luckily we live in a time where we are no longer confined to post it notes and notes taken on napkins.  We no longer need to carry around one paper day-timer or notepad.

Evernote is a tool that asks “what if you could take every napkin you’ve ever written on, every thought you’ve ever wanted to hold on to, every book someone told you to read and could write it down, save it to one central location and be able to access it and search it, from anywhere.”

I have an iPhone, an iPad and a Macbook Pro.  I can take a photo snapshot note on my iPhone and it will be available on my computer when I get to the office.  I can take a text note on my iPad and finish it on my iPhone as I go out to lunch.  I can take a voice note on my iPhone and listen to it on the internet from a friend’s computer.

Everything syncs through Evernote.com so it can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection.

It’s an unbelievable and indispensable tool for me.  I use it for so many things.  Because most of us cannot remember everything we want to remember, the use of a tool like Evernote is great way to remember everything.

Please read my previous Evernote post to get a better sense of how I use it.

BTW: Evernote is available for Blackberry, Android, iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows, and as browser extensions.  It’s good for anyone.
