I barely remember what I used to do prior to 2008 when I started writing and connecting on social media.
- In 2007, I never worried about whether or not I’d blogged recently enough…I didn’t have a blog (let alone several blogs).
- I never paid much attention to the frequency of my podcast releases…because I didn’t have a podcast.
There have been periods of time over the last 5 years where I blogged daily, sometimes twice per day. I used to tweet significantly more than I do now.
What’s interesting is to think that to keep up with myself “back then” took almost no effort, because I didn’t do very much online. Today, I’m used to producing a much larger volume of content, and therefore I feel like I’m not keeping up with myself.
Furthermore, I look at others, some of the most prolific people in my industry and see them writing daily, posting podcasts weekly, and engaging in conversations across many platforms. I wonder how they do it all? I wonder how I ever did it all?
Sometimes it bothers me that I can’t keep up, other times I realize that the world will keep spinning whether or not I write.
Much like social media, success comes more naturally when I don’t worry about it as much, and instead, build the habit and just let it happen when it happens.
