I just got done reading Known by Mark Schaefer. I’ve long been a fan of Mark and his writing and his podcast, the Marketing Companion is among my favorite marketing podcasts.
Mark’s concept of becoming more well known is an important one in today’s competitive marketing environment. The old adage goes “people do business with those that they know, like and trust.” With that in mind, I thought it might be a good idea to read a book on the subject.
I noticed some of my peers getting opportunities that I wanted, and realized that, in general, it had to do with the fact that they were more well known. They’d done the work of building a name for themselves.
One of my three words for 2017 was Known. I think this was around the time that Mark came out with his book.
In Known, Mark goes over some great examples to show that it is not about becoming a Kardashian, but about finding your place and finding your space. Mark explores how to find a niche and how to think about playing within that niche.
Really, for anyone that is trying to become more well known, in order to open up new possibilities and leverage the true power of a personal brand, I suggest you read Known. It’s well worth your time.
