My Focus

I will continue my focus on helping people and being generous with ideas and information.  I will not apologize for promoting myself more heavily this year; I work really hard to provide something valuable.

My themes for 2011 will continue along a similar path as 2010:

  • Helping businesses become more social
  • Listening, content creation and measurement
  • Ideas
  • Social Marketing
  • The intersection of PR, Marketing and Social Media
  • Promoting other people’s great work
  • Reviewing and understanding new software and trends
  • Causes and Philanthropy

General Housekeeping

Every year I think one should take stock in their digital existence and resolve to make it better.

  • I will bookmark each and every alpha and beta site I join.  I will not lose track as I did in 2010.
  • I will go on a Social Media diet.  Even though I need to know about new sites cropping up, I don’t need to have so many accounts.  It’s maddening.  Sites that get no use will get a generic profile pic and a link back to my blog.  If it turns out to be worthwhile, I’ll deal with it then.
  • I will curate the best case studies on Diigo.  I will curate my favorite blog posts on Diigo, these are the timeless and profound.
  • I will devote more time and effort to LinkedIn.  I’ve been ignoring my professional network on LinkedIn; I’m sorry.
  • I will step up my GTD game and track my time more accurately.

Results and Metrics

They wouldn’t be resolutions if I couldn’t measure them.  By December 31st, 2011…

  • I will book two new pieces of business as a result of my Social Media activity.
  • I will post videos of at least 2 speaking engagements.
  • I will write 208 blog posts, on this blog, this year.  That’s 4 per week.
  • I will feature 1 guest blog post per month.  Interested in writing for Social Media Philanthropy?
  • I will triple my blog subscriber count.
  • I will organically double my Twitter following.  As of today it is: 2,758
  • I will organically surpass 500 likes on my Fan Page.  As of today it is: 118
  • I will post 3 personal case studies from my work with clients.
  • I will donate my blog for a full week to promoting worthwhile causes that I believe in.

My personal appeal to you

I can’t do this all alone.  In fact, it would be impossible to do virtually any of this without you, my readers, friends and network.  If I post something good, please share it.  If I post something ridiculous that you just don’t agree with, post in the comments, help build the conversation with me so that I can improve. If you like my blog, my fan page or anything else I’m doing, please share it with someone.
