Read a really interesting blog from Justin Kownacki today about blogging weekly vs daily.
I’ve thought about this topic at great lengths but no matter how hard I try I seem to be unable to blog daily, though I’d love to. Often times I don’t have the mental bandwith to write something valuable or profound on a daily basis. I think great things everyday but in the midst of being a newly wed, in a new job, two dogs and a growing to-do list, it’s hard to find the time for a daily blog post. I tend to write something whenever I feel inspired or something really interesting crosses my path. Luckily, as time goes on the frequency seems to increase. Justin makes a point about fitting blogging into his workflow and focusing on quality over quantity. In the end, I think the lesson is there is no right way to do it but the way you blog will affect certain metrics such as site traffic, retweets, etc.
This post got me thinking; I think this is a good lesson though for new bloggers. It can be a daunting task to start and maintain a blog. This is especially true when you see great writers like Chris Brogan, Seth Godin and Justin Kownacki writing on a regular basis and getting enormous traction. The key is not to compare but to aspire. I can’t compare my blog to any of theirs, but I can aspire to get to the level that their blogs have achieved. I think all-in-all blogging is a serious commitment but one that doesn’t have to feel heavy.
