You are allowed to have that opinion insofar as it stays an opinion and does not impact other people’s lives.
And it doesn’t matter what that opinion is or whether or not it is factually accurate.
That doesn’t mean you are RIGHT, it just means you have THE RIGHT to that opinion.
The important distinction
You can talk about your opinion all you want.
You can use it as the basis for your worldview.
You can even live your own life according to those opinions.
But the minute those opinions impact even one other person, it is subject to a clash of ideas. The one that wins should not be the one to shout the loudest and ignore facts. It is not the one to distract from the clash through misdirection.
Those who can’t back their opinions with facts should stay out of these conversations. And those same people should recognize that they cannot use other people’s opinions as facts.
Unfortunately, the clash of ideas is not won that way
The clash of ideas is emotional. The clash of ideas is often uninformed. The clash of ideas involve people who confuse their opinions with facts…because they believe.
Just imagine where we’d be if it were not that way.
