How do we, as people, validate ourselves?

Typically, I think, we use signals from others to validate ourselves, our work, and our actions.  But is it possible to validate yourself without any external evidence?  Is it enough to believe something about yourself, your work, or your actions for it to be true?

I think part of self-confidence is the ability to believe in yourself without any additional evidence to support that belief.  To take on something extraordinary, you often have to do something that has never been done, or something you may feel unqualified to do.

But furthermore, in order to feel validated in anything, shouldn’t you first have to believe it about yourself?  Because without that, no amount of external praise will overshadow your own doubt.

Believe in yourself, and be ready to do it without anyone’s permission.
