Think for a moment about the idea that life is just a game.
Everyone has a finite number of years on this planet and it’s their choice the kind of game they want to play.
We all have a game we play. Some do it consciously, some are born into circumstances and (unconsciously) play the game they were given.
The characters in House of Cards (as well as the 1%, members of our government, and executives at large corporations) are (mostly all) playing the power game.
Their game doesn’t have the same ethical rules or moral framework as other games but that’s the game that they’ve chosen to play. The decisions they make and the way in which they related to other humans is a product of the game they are trying to win.
People choose to play all sorts of different games.
- Some people play a game where the objective is happiness. The more happiness the higher the “score” or “achievement.”
- Some people live a life where winning their game is about acquiring the largest number of things.
- Some people want to make the world a better place, and help those less fortunate. They measure success in their game by the number of lives touched, mouths fed, or houses built.
I don’t think any one game is inherently more “correct” though it’s obvious that some games have a more negative impact than others.
Your Game Is Your Story
What made me think of this, is that I thought about my motivations in business and it became clear that the objective of my game is not profit, but loving what I do and making a positive impact on the world.
Therefore everything I do revolves around a different set of choices, because the game I’m playing necessitates me to make those decisions.
You get to choose what game you play. Even people born into their game have a choice.
What game are you playing?
