People have said “follow your passion” and the rest will follow.
People have said “do what you love and you’ll never work a day or in your life.”
It’s a lie. Don’t believe it.
The truth is that these motivational statements only tell half the story.
If you follow your passion, you may wind up flat broke.
That’s a real possibility. Being passionate isn’t the same as monetizing passion.
And if you can monetize passion, it’s likely that you’ll do it less and less as you build and manage the business. Over time it’ll feel more and more like a job and less and less like a fun side hobby.
If you do what you love, not only will you work, you’ll probably work harder than you ever have.
Here’s how I think it goes…
Follow your passion and learn how to frame it as a solution to a problem that someone in the world needs. You need to do the work, and you need to commit to it or it’s just a hobby.
If you do this work that you love, work harder at it than anyone else. It will not be easy.
You will be tired, you will question it, and at times, you may want to quit. Your passion will come and go.
But if you can make it through the struggle, the doubt, and push through to the end, it’ll be worth it.
