So what’s so great about the World Wide Web?

I think there are a myriad of things that can be said about the internet.  Our unprecedented access to information, our ability to connect with one another, and of course LOLCats.

But one of the things I find most amazing about the internet is that it allows people to organize quickly and efficiently.  It gives us the power to stand united as a large group, each making smaller contributions rather than one person standing alone against a BIG challenge.  A good example of this is Kiva.com where individuals can make small loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries.  We’ve also got causes.com where you can get involved in any number of social, environmental or disease-related fundraising efforts.

But closer to home, we’ve got fundraising through people we know.  Some people have a HUGE stage to promote their philanthropic activities and others don’t.  I have a moderate stage and I want to use it today to ask for your help.  My call to action for you is small.  I want us to tap the power of micro-donations so that we can achieve something great without one person carrying the full financial burden.

I want to ask for your help on behalf of my dog walker as she walks in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk.

Lois Tolvinski

Lois is our dog walker.  She takes care of our three dogs, one of whom is diabetic, every weekday.  Her mother died of breast cancer when she was 10, and her Aunt is a breast cancer survivor.  Lois is going to be walking 60 MILES next Friday.  She has set a fundraising goal of $2,300, I think with your help we can CRUSH that goal.

So here is what I’m asking for.  You can do one of these OR both of these.

CALLS TO ACTION

Give $10, or whatever you can above that. Click the button to be brought to her fundraising official page.

OR

If you can’t donate money, share this blog post on all of your social networks.

That’s it.  All it takes is 5 minutes of your time to either contribute money or spread the word.  $10 is nothing in the face of the prospect of losing a loved one to breast cancer.  Skip the Starbucks for 2 days and help us crush her fundraising goal.

How will YOU help?

The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure net proceeds fund innovative global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment. Virtually every major advance in the fight against breast cancer in the last 29 years has been impacted by a Susan G. Komen for the Cure® grant.
