“This is as fast as my little legs can go.”
The beginning of this year has been off to such a fast start that I am beginning to worry if my little legs can keep up. I’m running as fast as I can and just when I think I’m keeping pace, the tempo increases. These are good problems to have, but problems nonetheless.
If my business were literally about running, I’d have no way to keep up or increase my tempo past the capabilities of my short little legs. Thankfully I “run” a different kind of business. So as the speed is increasing, I’m adding more work onto other people’s shoulders, shifting around tasks so I can keep up.
I’m no master of it, by any means, but I’m learning to delegate. I firmly believe that the art of delegation should be incorporated into more MBA curriculums.
One thing is certain about growing a business, you never know when the momentum will hit. Last year at this time, I had one contract, for $500. I was terrified.
This year, I don’t have time to stop and count.
Here’s how I got the momentum. Lean in close, because it’s a secret…
For (at least) the past 3 years, this has been my strategy:
- I give away a tremendous amount of my time and expertise. #generosity
- I work really hard. #tenacity
- I focus on developing incredibly strong relationships with my clients, my partners, and my audience. #relationships
- I believe success will come to me. #belief #confidence
If it’s slow for you right now, never forget how much can change in a short period of time. The only thing in your way is you.
