Guest blogging can have a number of wonderful effects.

We syndicate our blog Social Media Philanthropy to Social Media Today.  Each of our posts is fed into Social Media Today via RSS and their editorial board selects posts to be showcased on the site.  In this case, content is being curated from other sources that originally posted the content, but it is still similar to guest blogging.

We also contribute to an industry leading blog on the topic of Social Business called Social Business News.  This is a chance for us to add our voice into the leading conversations around Social Business.

Getting your content shown outside of your own network can have surprisingly positive effects.  It might be time to start thinking about YOUR guest blogging strategy.

The Facebook Post

On May 31st we posted an article to Social Media Philanthropy that got picked up by Social Media Today on June 2nd.  It was called “Here’s Why We Stopped Wasting Time on Facebook.”

Waste on Facebook.001

On Social Media Today, as of today, the article got 48 comments and was shared over 7,000 times.  In our world, that’s “going viral.”  It’s not “Charlie bit my finger” viral, but it was tough for us to keep up with the incoming comments across different social channels, and it spread far beyond what we could do ourselves.

The result of that exposure is that we got 5 new leads, and dozens of new subscribers, not to mention the massive increase in awareness and exposure that the article created.

The Case for Social Business

Yesterday, we published a guest post on Social Business News.

The post was called:  Social Business: “This is not just a drill, people.”

In this post we discuss the inevitability of the social business movement and theorize about some of the roadblocks that today’s companies may face.

We have entered a new era.  An era where relationships takes precedence.  An era where new, changing technologies will continually affect businesses.

Within minutes of posting, we had a comment, and from that, we met someone new on Twitter that we might not have otherwise met.  We also got a contact for submission from someone who’d found us on Social Business News, also, within minutes.

You never know what might happen when you spread your wings a bit.

Start at home, but don’t be afraid to venture out

Of course it helps to have a strong blog presence of your own before getting guest blog opportunities.  But even if you don’t, a guest blog can be your chance to contribute more selectively and with a more targeted focus.

If you want to start guest blogging but don’t know where to start, we can help.
