Some people put a lot of weight into a person’s title. They’ll look at someone’s car, their house, or the clothes they wear, and they’ll think something about it. Something like “that person is important.”
But none of those things say anything about who a person really is, no matter how many car commercials try to convince us otherwise.
- If someone is wearing a diamond encrusted Rolex, but they tip their waiter 10%, are they wealthy and admirable, or are they just selfish, greedy and rude?
- If someone drives an impressive fancy car to a big impressive job with an impressive title but then proceeds to demeans all of his/her underlings throughout the day and creates a culture of fear, is that person actually impressive?
- If someone comes home to a big beautiful house, a gorgeous wife and two amazing children, but ignores them all just to watch sports in the office while doing more work, does he have the life his status would indicate?
A person should never be judged by what they have, but instead what they give away. A person’s status should never be bought, it should be earned, and not measured in dollars, but in how they made other people feel.
Titles are just packaging, possessions are just ornaments. If you really want to be impressed with someone, find the ones that would be happy even if they had nothing.
This isn’t directed at anyone in particular.
Don’t read too much into it. I probably like you. 🙂
