No one expects perfection. But in the pursuit of happiness and success, it’s important to set yourself up by mitigating your weaknesses through self-recognition. All of the best leaders know this.
I know that I have a hard time staying focused. So I use calendars, task lists and notes to stay on-point.
I know that I have trouble managing too many moving parts at once. So I’m using project management tools and devoting extra time to this, until I can hire someone as a full time Project & Account Manager.
I know that finance is not my strong suit, so I have a bookkeeper and an accountant. So I speak with my bookkeeper every week to ensure I know what’s happening in my business.
By contrast…
I know that I am excellent at using social tools to initiate relationships, and get an in-person meeting. I know that once I get to that meeting, I can ask great questions and quickly determine if I can help the other person. I know that I’m likable and engaging in person, and that my knowledge and passion shine through helping me to close more business. So I keep business development in my core focus.
I know that I have a deep understanding of social media tools and the principles of social business that allow companies to thrive in this new business landscape. I know that I’m a good writer, because it’s a skill that I worked very hard on. So I keep strategy development in my core focus.
I know that I can explain complex topics in simple terms. So I keep training in my core focus.
Finally, I know that I love doing this, running my own company, not having a boss, calling my own shots, and living with the consequences of my decisions. So I push harder every day to make sure that I can keep this lifestyle.
I know all of these things about myself, and it’s this self-awareness that has gotten me this far.
How well do you really know yourself?
