People often ask me about what running my own company is like. Typically I describe like this:
The difference between running my own company and being my own boss versus working for someone else and having a boss is very similar to the difference between finding “the one” that you want to spend the rest of your life with and someone you dated for a few weeks.
What I’m talking about is true love, and you don’t need to have your own company to find it, you just have to be clear about what you want.
When I ask someone (as I often do) what do you LOVE to do, if money were no object, what would you do every day of your life? Only 10% of people ever have an answer. Most people don’t even know.
The idea of going through school and “getting a job” is so ingrained in us from an early age, that rarely do people think about what they are passionate about.
I was cut from a different cloth, in fact, I owe much of my satisfaction and success now, to failures earlier in life. I wanted to be a pro basketball player (PG for the Knicks), a legendary Hollywood movie director, a world famous traveling photographer, personal chef who would revolutionize in-home fine dining, and today President and Chief Strategist of a Social Business Agency.
I have ONLY ever chased career paths doing things I loved to do and in doing so, I’ve arrived here.
Do you love your job? If not, why not? What would you love to do? Post your dream job in the comments of this post, and if I can, I try and help you see the pathway there.
