I wrote this a while back while at a restaurant in Louisville.
I found it by asking someone at the hotel for a recommendation. I could’ve gone on Yelp or Foursquare.
In either case I’d be trusting a stranger or many strangers. I don’t know the guy that recommended this restaurant but I trust that he wanted to give me a good recommendation.
We trust Amazon reviews in aggregate.
We trust local people to give us directions and recommendations.
We trust people to come and pick us up in their cars, and drive us safely to our destination.
If you ask most people, “do you trust strangers” I bet most would say “no.”
But I think we trust strangers more than we actually consider.
