There’s a new “bright, shiny object” on the horizon..BOTS.
That’s right bots are back. What used to be the punchline to a Twitter joke now has the marketing world buzzing with excitement.
“Isn’t it exciting to have code engage with our audience instead?!”
So here we are, making social EVEN MORE automated.
So here we are, introducing half-baked technology into the world because the one or two times it works is exciting to…someone.
And here we are, again, and marketers are peeing themselves with excitement. Surely there’s an independent marketer right now with a spreadsheet carefully curating all the asinine and silly marketing catchphrases they can think of.
If, at any point in your life, you believed in the possibility of social media to change the world, you should hate bots. You should hate bots and everything they stand for as a marketer, and as a human being.
We don’t even need to get into the implications of replacing customer service reps with bots for us to see what a crappy idea this is. I hate bots, and you should too.
I hate bots, and you should too.
