Have you ever stop to consider just how many decisions we make each and every day of our lives?
Seriously, think about the first few hours of the day:
- deciding what time to get up in the morning, or whether to hit the snooze button;
- deciding what to wear;
- deciding what to eat for breakfast;
- deciding what the first thing you will do at the office;
- and so on, and so on…
When you really think about it, it becomes fairly exhausting. All of the decisions, all of the time, every day of our lives.
Having choices and being given the ability to make decisions, is freedom. But that freedom comes at a price. Each decision we make create some small level of anxiety.
What if we get it wrong? What if we get it right?
I think that’s why structure can be so calming to people. When you remove the thought and remove the choice, you remove the decision anxiety. When the decision is made for us, we don’t have to think, we don’t have to worry about making the wrong choice, it’s out of our control.
But just because it’s easier to give up the choice, doesn’t mean it’s the best thing to do. And just because you get to make the decision, doesn’t mean you are the best person to make that choice.
Everyday, this is both the benefit and the struggle of entrepreneurship; no one is there to make the decisions for you.
