When I was a kid, sometimes people would introduce me to others as “he’s a really funny guy.” So now I have to be funny?
“Dance for me clown!”
To remain relevant online nowadays, it seems that the only option is consistency. We’re all now “expected” to create content regularly. Before the proliferation of blogging platforms, social networking and social video, no one expected this level of content production from anyone except the established media channels: television, radio, newspapers, etc.
But the genie is out of the bottle. You can’t take the pee out of the pool.
The problem is, once something is expected of you, much of the fun can be drained out as the original motivation–creativity, mission, purpose–is now replaced with obligation and fear of letting someone else down.
It takes everything sometimes to ignore expectations and do things on your own terms, so you can continue to do it for the right reasons.
