It’s often said that “it takes 10 years to become an overnight success,” and other variations of that idea.
People see individuals in the spotlight–those that succeed–and think that they just “burst onto the scene.” In the same way that we see the social feeds of others–carefully crafted and curated to show only the bright side of life–and think they have a remarkable life, that everything is rosy.
I can’t wait until the day 3 years from now when someone casually suggests that I “came out of nowhere.” I’ll be so glad that I can point to a body of work spanning back to 2008.
The moral of the story is, if you want to succeed the first step is starting because you’ll never amass a body of work, you’ll never learn from mistakes, and you’ll never become an “overnight success” until you start walking the path. Before you know it, 5-10 years will pass, and you can be an overnight success.
