Isn’t it interesting that very few people make December 30th resolutions?
Isn’t it it interesting that “wrapping up the year” is either substantially more or less stressful after January 1st?
It’s only a few days, but we attach a unique significance to either side of January 1st.
I know for myself, the end of the year is inspiring; it’s a time for thinking, reflecting, and finishing side projects. I delight in the quiet. I feel incredibly motivated to work. It’s like sprinting the last 100 yards of the race.
By contrast the beginning of the year I find somewhat anxious. I’m slightly overwhelmed by the possibility of the next 365 days. I feel an obsessive need to plan, rather than do. I am not closing out strong, but rather I’m pacing and preparing for the long journey of an entire year.
Both mindsets are necessary, but what a difference a few days can make.
