Can Social Media change the world?
YES it can, and it already has. I’m not trying to make a grandiose statement or get us to join hands and sing Kumbaya. Let’s be real for a minute. The social web allows information to spread faster than ever before in human history. There was no “going viral” with the invention of the telephone. That ability to spread information is what makes the web so powerful and the birth and development of the more social web has made it even more powerful. So let’s use that power to make a difference. If you want to make a difference today…read on.
I met someone at a social media conference who works with the Sunshine Foundation. She was trying to help them raise $10,000 to answer the dreams of chronically ill children, ages 3-18. Unfortunately, they got little traction on their “Day of Sunshine” campaign yesterday and did not meet their goal. The campaign is still open and I think we can help raise that money by the end of today with your help.
So I have two requests today:
1) Their text campaign is still running and they are currently taking donations via text. $5 per text. It couldn’t be easier. Text SUN to 85944 $5 isn’t a lot of money and it will help make a huge difference to some chronically ill child. Skip the Subway $5 foot long tomorrow and bring lunch instead. You can text multiple times too, if you want.
2) The truth is that the Sunshine Foundation has not done the best job so far using Social Media, but that is where we can help. Share this post or make your Facebook status update instructions on how to donate. Like them on Facebook. Follow them on Twitter. The work they are doing is important. Tweet a link for them.
Social Media is a tool that has given us the ability to connect with one another in profound ways and spread information faster than ever before. Help the Sunshine Foundation raise the money they need to brighten the day of a chronically ill child.
