My Linkedin profile is pretty cool. I know this because people tell me. I can’t tell you the amount of mileage I’ve gotten out of my headline.
I also know it’s a good profile because when I analyze it against my goals and the opportunities that Linkedin offers, I score very highly.
Your Linkedin profile should serve to tell a story about you and your experience. It should paint a picture for your ideal prospect or recruiter that showcases what you have to offer in the best light.
But How Do I Do That?!
Rome wasn’t built in a day. But, you can have a top notch profile in 24 hours with a little bit of elbow grease, a strong cup of coffee, and some decent content creation skills.
At the end of this post I’m going to give you a spreadsheet to score and grade your profile. But before that…
How to think about your Linkedin profile
Most people I talk to tend to compare a Linkedin profile to a resume.
I suggest you think of your Linkedin profile more like a website than a resume.
Resumes are boring. There, I said it.
There’s nothing to interact with on a resume, which is why the average resume gets about 6 seconds.
Interestingly enough, most people give a website 7 seconds to capture their interest.
What’s the difference?
People are more likely to go longer than 7 seconds on the website if it’s interesting and engaging. Resumes are still just resumes.
This is why thinking about your Linkedin profile like a website is smarter.
Grab attention and keep it
A good Linkedin profile will have links, rich media, great copywriting, and interesting stories.
Make sure you have more than just words that document your past, but instead words, images and videos that describe what you’re capable of by SHOWING IT!
I’m going to give you the template, and I want you to run through your profile and give it a facelift.
But first…
Here are a few tools you should consider using:
Canva : Make some nice looking graphics.
Slideshare : Embed slides, documents and more onto your profile.
Grammerly : Check your grammar.
Copyblogger’s Magnetic Headlines Guide : Your headlines can always be better. Grab attention.
YouTube : Not only is YouTube a great place to market on its own, you can also embed videos on your Linkedin profile.
Ok, you’ve been patient.
